Horace George St Paul Butler

Horace was born in 1898. He was the son of George Butler and Maria St Paul. His mother died when he was just three. He served as a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery during the First World War. After the War, he struggled to receive an army pension after suffering from “shell shock” or post-traumatic stress disorder. He married Dorothy Torlesse and the couple moved to Canada. His uncle, Charles Augustus, was living there with his daughter Rosalind Frances (1899) and his son John Nicholson Butler (1902), and their descendants. Horace and Dorothy eventually returning to England after 8 years in Canada. During the Second World War, he served as a Captain in the 1st Battalion Northumberland Home Guard. He passed away in 1971.
